High School: In 2013-14, Gildsig attended Somerset H.S. in Pennsylvania. In 20 games, he scored 18 goals and 18 assists for 36 points.

Juniors: Gildsig played for the Bradford Bulls of the Greater Metro Hockey League from 2015-19. He played in 152 games, scoring eight goals and 44 assists for 52 points.
