DAVENPORT UNIVERSITY PANTHERS

Chris Green

Chris Green is in his seventh season leading the DII program and 13th overall after serving as head coach from 2008-14 for the DIII program. Green compiled 178 wins during his six years as the DIII head coach and participated in the national tournament five times. He has currently won 94 games behind the bench of the DII program.

The 2019-20 season was a historic one for the Panthers as they qualified for the ACHA DII National Tournament for the first time under Green. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the nationals were canceled and DU ended their season with a 20-12-3 record. This was a 16-win improvement from two seasons earlier and propelled the program into another level. The Panthers without the aid of a league tournament, readied for the ACHA Central Regionals and needed two wins to qualify for nationals. DU needed overtime for a 4-3 win over St. Thomas on leap day (Feb. 29) and then blew the doors off Marian, 8-2, to punch their ticket to nationals. The team had a lot of support playing at nearby Griff's in Hudsonville, Mich.

In the 2018-19 season, Davenport finished 15-13-1 overall and washed away a four-win campaign from a season before in 2017-18. The team narrowly advanced to nationals after a 5-0 opening win over Grand Valley State in the first game of regionals. The Panthers could not get past Trine losing 5-2 to end their season.

In 2016-17, the Panthers posted a 16-15 overall record and narrowly missed out on a nationals bid. They beat Marian (Ind.) in the ACHA Central Regionals and then fell to Aurora University at Plymouth Ice Center. Forward Donald Sund was named Second Team All-American under the watchful eye of Green.

Green stepped into the coaching role after a very successful playing career at Davenport. In 2007-2008, Green helped DU to its first-ever ACHA DII National Championship and was part of a team that made four straight appearances in the National Tournament including three straight Final Four's.

As a coach, Green has led the Panthers to five consecutive berths in the ACHA DIII National Tournament including a national runner-up finish in 2011-2012. In a three-year span, they have made an appearance every year at the final four in the National Tournament. Davenport finished in first place in the MCHC during the 2012-2013 and 2013-14 seasons and won the 2011 and 2014 MCHC Tournament championship.

Green also brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Panthers and currently is a director with Rams Hockey. He also has spent time coaching Peewee AAA for the West Michigan Warriors and is the Director of Operations for Turcotte Hockey School. Chris lives in Grand Rapids with his wife who both completed their BBA at Davenport University in Business Management.
