Last week, the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League announced its annual postseason awards, and, as per usual, Davenport's Men's D1 Hockey team made an appearance.
This year, six Panthers were honored for their achievements both on and off the ice this season. With three being tabbed All-League.
NATHAN NICKELSON
The captain of this season's team, the junior had a career year, even though he only played nine games. Nickelson's 13 points led the Panthers in scoring, with his eight assists also being the most on the club.
Nickelson was named 2nd-Team All-League, and his two-way ability earned him a spot on the GLCHL All-Defensive team as well.
RYAN WONFOR
Even though he is on a team with only three listed defensemen, there was no question that Wonfor was DU's best blueliner this past season. Despite only putting up three points this season (one goal, two assists), the Missauga, Ontario's strengths came in his own zone.
Similar to Nickelson, Wonfor was named 2nd-Team All-League, while also being named to the All-Defensive Team.
JONATHAN DUBBINK
If there was any Panther who really made a great first impression this season, no question it was Dubbink. After scoring a pair of goals in his college debut, he only continued to stand out, posting a total of three two-goal peformances, and ended up leading the Panthers in goals with eight.
Dubbink was also named 2nd-Team All-League, while also being honored as a member of the All-Rookie Team.
ACADEMIC HONORS
Along with their performances on the ice, Nickelson and Wonfor also were named to the All-Academic Team, along with teammates
Austin Thompson,
Jason Cohan and
Luke Cowan.
