MIDLAND, Mich. - The season ended on a high note for the men's tennis team on Saturday as they captured fifth place in the GLIAC Tournament with a 4-1 win over Ashland at the Greater Midland Tennis Center. DU finishes the season with a 9-10 overall record.
The doubles portion saw the Panthers win the number one and two spots to claim a point. Juan-Louis vanAntwerpen and
Jonathan Bulmer needed to go into a tiebreaker but squeaked out a 7-6 (7-5) win at one doubles over Stuart Brdicka and Priyank Soni.
Daniil Khitrou and
Juan Jose Pino Contoleon had a much easier time at two doubles with a 6-1 win over Jordan Phelps and Tche Kun Teng.
The number one and six singles went unfinished as the other four singles ended to determine the final outcome. The Eagles won at two singles as Soni beat
Frank Piana III by scores of 6-0, 6-2. The Panthers won the other three singles matches. Khitrou went 6-2, 6-2 at three singles against Phelps. Bulmer went 6-0, 6-0 at four singles against Jacob Hoffman. Contoleon won 6-3, 7-5 at five singles against Teng. Bulmer finished the season with the most singles wins on the team (12). He also went 14-3 at doubles to lead the team in doubles wins.Â
