Last 25 minutes tells the story in 18-10 loss to Lewis

DU led 9-7 at 10:39 of the third quarter before the Flyers scored eight straight goals with the last coming at 8:40 left in the game

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The men's lacrosse team had one really tough stretch in the second half on Wednesday and it ultimately led to a 18-10 loss to Lewis. Davenport was playing one of their best games of the season and led 9-7 with 10:39 left in the third quarter. Lewis then put the game away by scoring the next eight goals to build a 15-9 lead with 8:40 left in the contest.

The first quarter was pretty quiet as Lewis led 2-1 after the first 15 minutes. After that point however, the scoring was coming in bunches. Davenport outscored Lewis 6-4 in the second quarter and took a 7-6 lead into halftime.

Davenport grabbed their 9-7 lead in the third quarter but the Flyers scored 11 of the last 12 goals of the game. Thomas Purfeerst scored a team-high four goals for the Flyers. Stephen Ochsenkehl netted a hat trick with a team-high three goals for Davenport. Lewis finished the game with 56 total shots and put a high percentage of 35 on goal. Davenport finished the game with 31 total shots and put 19 on goal.

Davenport was really hurt by 23 turnovers but cleaned it up after 10 in the first quarter. Lewis led 34-27 in groundballs and won 23-of-32 in the face-off circle. Daniel Milano had another great game in net for the Panthers with 17 saves and also had five groundballs. Jordan Caskenette had two goals and one assist with five shots on goal. Gavin Mead had a goal and assist. Adam Smellie had two goals and two assists. Connor Foster and Joseph Bragg each had five wins in the face-off circle. Kaden Seelye led the team with four caused turnovers.
