ALLENDALE, Mich. - The track and field teams made the short trip over to Grand Valley State for the Al Owens Classic on Saturday. The programs were set on improving some personal bests and also gearing up for their own home meet which will take place next Saturday at the Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia. The ultimate test comes in a few weeks when the Panthers will host the GLIAC Outdoor Championships for the first time May 5-7.
Leialani Akalaonu was able to finish ninth in the 100-meter dash for the women with a time of 12.81.
Kyla Chappell finished 13th in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.31.
Scout Nelson ran a time of 4:48.09 in the 1,500 meters and finished 14th. She did manage to trim 10 seconds off her previous season best.
Emma Schafer took home first place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.65 and set a new personal best.
Josephine Sokol finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:07.96 and the freshman set a personal best in the event.
Mackenzie Brigham placed seventh in the women's long jump and hit her mark of 17' 0" on her final jump.
Lisa Wangler took third in the hammer throw (159' 1"), sixth in the shot put (42' 5.5") and fifth in the discus (116' 10").
Brendan LaLonde raced to a eighth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.47.
Isaiah Salguero ran the grueling 5,000 meters in a time of 16:18.06 and finished in sixth place. The freshman also set a personal best in the event.
Corbin DeJonge hurdled his way to fourth in the 110 meter finals with a time of 15.34. He added a third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.04 and set a personal best.

Ryan Olsen took home fifth in the high jump clearing the bar at 6' 0".
Isaiah Schafer once again hit a provisional mark in Division II for the shot put and placed second in the event with a toss of 59' 5.75" on his fourth attempt.
Noah Evers was right on his heels in third place with a throw of 50' 3.5".
Claude Ockert also hit a provisional mark in the hammer throw with a distance of 200' 1" and it was a personal best for the junior.Â
