A split occurred for DU at Purdue Northwest on Saturday

James Rogers and Cal Djuraskovic combined for a shutout in Game 1

HAMMOND, Ind. - A couple of firsts happened on Saturday for the baseball team. The Panthers shutout a GLIAC opponent for the first time this season in a 2-0 Game 1 victory and the Pride of Purdue Northwest beat the Panthers for the first time in series history in an 8-5 Game 2 triumph. The Panthers had their second shutout of the season (Trevecca Nazarene 12-0 on March 12 Game 2) in Game 1 and PNW was previously 0-10 against DU before Game 2's win.

James Rogers and Cal Djuraskovic were masterful in Game 1 for the combined shuout. Rogers was dealing in the seven-inning contest as he went six innings and improved to 5-2 (leading GLIAC in wins). He allowed five hits (all singles) and walked just one with seven strikeouts. His innings pitched, walk total and strikeouts were all season bests for him. Djuraskovic earned his fifth save of the season working the seventh and struck out two of the three hitters he faced.

Chad Patrick, it should be noted, had a great outing for the Pride going all seven innings and striking out 10. It was just the second time this season that an opposing pitcher struck out 10 or more Panthers. Noah Marcoux extended his hit streak to 12 straight games in Game 2 and went 2-for-3 in Game 1 with a double and RBI. His RBI double came in the second inning. Christian Petre drove in the other run in the seventh on a groundout to second. 

The Pride got off the schneid in Game 2 pounding out 18 hits in the 8-5 win. Derrick Edington struggled in the start for DU and lasted 3.1 innings. He allowed 11 hits and five earned runs (seven total) with one walk and one strikeout. He is now 1-3 on the hill this season. Evan Maize had a great outing as the fourth pitcher of the game for DU. He finished the final three innings and allowed three hits with no runs and four strikeouts.

Joe Sullivan improved to 2-0 for the Pride going seven innings in the nine-inning affair. Sullivan scattered eight hits and allowed five runs with two walks and three strikeouts. Nathan Boyer got his first save of the season pitching two innings. The Pride did their damage early scoring seven of their eight runs in the first four innings.

Davenport scored four runs in the top of the second to take a 4-1 lead but it didn't last long as Purdue Northwest tied it up at 4 in the bottom half. Petre, Nolan Bryant and Marcoux each had two hits. Petre had a double and Marcoux had a triple. Bryant drove in two runs while Petre, Nolan Anspaugh and Travis Harvey each had a RBI.
