GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport women's basketball team cruised to a 79-49 win over visiting Lake Superior State on Friday to improve to 3-7 on the season. The 30-point margin of victory is the most since the Panthers joined the GLIAC and is their largest margin of victory since a 97-47 win at Cornerstone on Dec. 18, 2019.
The Panthers played fine defense holding the Lakers to 25.9 percent shooting which is a season-best against an opponent. The Lakers trailed 22-16 after the first quarter and then DU held them to four points in the second quarter and 1-of-10 from the field. DU led 37-20 at halftime and also outscored the Lakers 21-11 in the fourth quarter.
Toni Grace led the Panthers with 25 points and she now has nine career 20-plus point games with two coming this season. The 25 points was her season-high as she went 9-of-16 from the floor including 5-of-9 behind the arc. Grace also had five rebounds, four assists and four steals in 26 minutes.
Emily Lange played 22 minutes off the bench and scored 11 points while grabbing five rebounds.
Kenzie Wilkinson scored 10 points in 24 minutes going 4-of-5 from the floor including 2-of-3 behind the arc. Wilkinson led the team with eight rebounds.
Courtney McInerney blocked three shots in 15 minutes and had three rebounds.
Loni Sales led the team with five assists and also scored five points and had a pair of steals.
Davenport shot 43.5 percent (a season-high) from the floor and were 11-of-30 behind the arc to tie a season-high for three-pointers. DU led 25-7 in points off turnovers and outscored LSSU 24-18 in the paint. It was the first time this season the Panthers have done that. The same two teams will tip tomorrow at 1 PM at the DU Student Center.
