HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Davenport men's tennis team could not make it three in a row this weekend as they were beaten 4-2 at Hillsdale College on Sunday. The Panthers are now 3-2 overall this season, while the Chargers improved to 2-0.
It was just the second meeting between the teams and the Chargers have now won both matchups. Hillsdale began with a point in doubles by way of winning at the one and two spots.
Matt Leatherman and
Jonathan Bulmer were victorious at three doubles for DU over Brian Hackman and Daniel Gilbert for Hillsdale by a 6-2 margin. The other matches went 7-5 for the home team.
Juan-Louis van Antwerpen picked up a win at one singles (6-3, 6-3) over Tyler Conrad. Bulmer got the other point for the Panthers with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at four singles over Gilbert.
Frank Piana III went three sets at two singles by fell 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 against Brennan Cimpeanu. Leatherman did not finish his six singles match as Hillsdale earned the clinching fourth point. He dropped the first set 6-2 and was up 2-1 in the second set.
