Davenport allows last-minute goal in overtime to Ashland

ASHLAND, Ohio – The Panthers nearly upset the number 11 ranked team in the country, but a last minute goal by the Eagles shut that down. Davenport scored the initial goal of this game and held a 1-0 lead in the second half, but allowed the equalizer shortly after and then the eventual game-winner in overtime. The last couple losses for Davenport could have gone either way. The Panthers remain in the fifth spot in the GLIAC standings with a record of 4-2-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half of play resulted in zero goals. Davenport recorded two shots on goal, while Ashland recorded four. The Panthers were playing one of the top teams in the country and playing them well. The two teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

Davenport silenced the Eagles crowd early in the second half, with a goal by Ashlyn Skidmore. After a foul by Brianna Fourman, Skidmore lined up for a free kick on the right side of the field, roughly 24 yards from the goal. Skidmore dropped the ball over the keeper and under the back at the back post for her third goal of the season. The goal gave Davenport a 1-0 lead over the Eagles. Ashland scored on a similar play, earning a free kick after a yellow card by Regan Heintz and the free kick was headed in by Tori Baker. After 90 minutes the game was tied 1-1.

For the fifth time this season Davenport needed extra time to determine a winner. Davenport struggled to get a shot off in the overtime period and the Eagles recorded just one, which ended up in the back of the net. With only 15 seconds left in the overtime period, a cross by Ashland found the foot of Deijah Swihart and she tapped the ball into the right corner of the net.
