ALLENDALE, Mich. – Davenport faced a tough opponent in the Lakers of Grand Valley State tonight, who is undefeated in GLIAC play and ranks 13
th in the country. The Panthers were overpowered in the matchup, falling 18-7 to the Lakers.
Ryann Deuel and
Taylor Ries led the Panthers offensively by tallying four points each.
Alex Yates had a long night as goalie. Yates faced 28 shots on the night and saved 10 of those. An eight goal stretch by the Lakers in the first period created a deep hole for Davenport to climb out of throughout the remainder of the game. The Panthers never gave up in the game, battling until the final buzzer sounded.

How It Happened
The first goal of the game was scored by DU's own Deuel, assisted by Ries. The lead lasted 23 seconds before the Lakers tied up the game 1-1. The goal by Grand Valley State initiated an eight-goal stretch that gave them an 8-1 lead with just under eight minutes to play in the first period. Ries ended the run by the Lakers with an unassisted goal with 6:26 left in the period. Davenport scored back-to-back goals when Deuel scored her second goal of the game less than a minute later than Ries, cutting the lead down to five goals. Each team score one more time before half, with Grand Valley leading 9-4 at halftime.
The Lakers scored four unanswered goals to open the second period, giving them a nine-goal lead. Deuel scored once in the period, while freshman
Brenna Knoll scored two goals to try and spark a comeback. Davenport couldn't string together consecutive goals, resulting in the Lakers lead growing through the period.
