Teunissen earns 11th shutout win of the season in doubleheader vs Wayne State

CALEDONIA, Mich. – The Panthers opened their 10-game home stand with a doubleheader against Wayne State University. The previous doubleheader between the two teams earlier in the season tilted the Warriors way as they took both games. This time around Davenport earned a split against Wayne State. Mallory Teunissen had a powerful performance in the circle in game one, earning her 11th shutout win of the season. The offense provided five runs to go along with Teunissen's performance in the game one win. Wayne State took game two of the doubleheader, holding DU to only one run and scoring five of their own.

Davenport exploded offensively in the opening two innings, scoring two runs in the first and second inning. French opened the game getting hit by a pitch, then two batters later Flores homered over the center field fence. In the second inning a triple to right center by Crawford scored Urban and French sac flied to left field to score Crawford. After two complete innings of play the Panthers held a four run lead. Davenport scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to increase their lead to five. Jewell singled up the middle to score Austin, who pinch ran for Allen after she advanced to second on a dropped fly. Teunissen went 1-2-3 in the sixth and the seventh to secure the victory for the Panthers.

Game two went the Warriors way. Wayne State scored a run in the top of the first and led for the remainder of the game. After getting down two runs the Panthers got on the board in the bottom of the third. Pauley singled to center field and scored Rowe from second. The Warriors went up four runs when they scored three in the top of the fifth. Davenport was held scoreless after their one run in the third inning.
 
Up Next
The Panthers have a quick turnaround as they host Ashland University on Sunday, April 22. This will be senior day and Davenport will honor their lone senior, Rowe. The first game of the doubleheader will start at 1 p.m. and Rowe will be honored after the second game.
