Buchberger returns with a vengeance in 21-7 win at SVSU

DU (14-11, 5-3) scored 20-plus runs for the second time in five games

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - Jacob Buchberger missed the last 18 games due to injury and hasn't played since February 28. That layoff didn't seem to bother him as he came back with a monster game in a 21-7 win over Saginaw Valley State on Saturday. The Panthers (14-11, 5-3 GLIAC) evened the four-game series after losing the first two before winning the final two games. Buchberger went 4-for-5 at the plate with three doubles and his third home run of the season and also finished with five RBI. He became the fourth player at DU with three doubles in a game to tie the school record.

Alex Huard also tied his career high with four RBI going 3-for-5 with his fifth double of the season. The Panthers totaled 19 hits on the day and also took full advantage of five Cardinal errors. The Panthers scored in seven of the nine innings including seven runs in the top of the ninth. They ended up scoring 12 runs in their last two innings.

Krystien Johnson-Battilana got his third start of the season for DU and threw 4.2 innings. He did not toss the five innings needed to get a win but allowed just four hits and two earned runs with six strikeouts. Pete Zeimis was again steady in relief going 3.1 innings and allowing just two hits to get the win (1-1). Zeimis struck out four and walked two.

Nolan Bryant went 2-for-7 with two runs and his seventh double of the season. Zac Wilson drove in three runs and hit his ninth double and sixth home run of the season. Austin Petravicius batted leadoff for the fourth time this season and went 3-for-5 with two runs and a stolen base.
