ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - It was another high-octane day for the Davenport baseball bats as they continued to stay hot with a 15-5 win over Eckerd on Tuesday night. The Panthers scored double-digit runs for the third straight game and improved to 4-2 overall by collecting 15 hits against eight Eckerd pitchers.
The hitting hero was
Jacob Buchberger who set a career-high with six RBI, becoming just the seventh Panther to have six or more RBI in a game. Buchberger had a pair of home runs another rare feat in school history. He finished the game 2-for-4 with three runs and also drew a walk.
Justin Palmbos got the start for the Panthers and went five innings allowing no earned runs. He got his first win of the season allowing four hits with one walk and five strikeouts.
Austin Stephens,
Josh Bobel and
Trevor Russo all made their first appearance of the season. Russo was the most effective of the trio going two innings and allowing no hits with three strikeouts.
Davenport scored four times in the second inning and then Eckerd responded with two in the bottom half. The Panthers scored five more runs in the third to take a 9-2 lead. They added four runs in the fifth inning and cruised from there.
Alex Huard batted leadoff going 3-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.
Zac Wilson batted 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and a stolen base.
Anthony DiPonio scored four times going 3-for-4 with two RBI, a walk and a double.
The Panthers will head over to Winter Haven tomorrow as they play Judson (1-5) beginning at 3:30 p.m.
