Davenport falls on the road to Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. – Davenport played the Lakers to a tight game throughout the first half, but were outscored by nine points in the second half. The two teams were whistled for a combined 27 fouls and resulted in 25 free throw attempts. The Panthers found themselves in serious foul trouble throughout the game, especially late in the second half. Davenport split the regular season series with the Lakers 1-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half of basketball was riddled with fouls for both teams and caused foul trouble early for multiple key players. Davenport scored the first bucket of the game, Janeau Joubert nailed a triple off the pass from Orlando Little. The game remained close during the first half with multiple lead changes. Davenport took over the lead with 13:07 in the half after a three ball by Cameron Burns. Numerous times in the half DU would trail by at least four points, and would fight their way back to even up the score. Grand Valley scored the final points of the half to take a two-point lead into halftime.
 
The Lakers gained momentum early in the second half and carried that through the remained of the game. Grand Valley built up a 12-point lead with just over 12 to play in the game after scoring three straight buckets. Davenport found themselves down 18 points with 4:26 left in the game. The Panthers fought back, despite losing Joubert and Robbie Bramhill earlier in the half due to reaching the individual foul limit, and cut the lead down to 10 points. Davenport could never bring the lead down to single digits late in the game.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers will play another road game this Thursday. Davenport travels to Midland, Mich. to take on Northwood University for an 8:00 p.m. tip-off.
