Davenport downs Aquinas College 20-9

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport pounded Aquinas College 20-9 and successfully defended their home turf. The Panthers had a commanding 12-3 lead at half time, thanks in part to five goals in the first period by Taylor Ries. The Saints never gave up as they were outscored by only two goals in the second period. The Panthers continue their undefeated play during conference games and improve to 9-1 overall on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport jumped on top of the Saints quickly and squashed the hopes of an Aquinas victory. The Panthers scored eight un-answered goals to start the first period and held the Saints scoreless up until there was 8:44 left in the period. Davenport ended the period with two goals by Brooke Knoll to take a nine-goal lead at halftime.
 
Aquinas never gave up fighting in the second period, scoring six goals compared to only three in the first period. The Panthers had an offensive response to every time Aquinas scored. The Saints scored two goals in the middle of the period to cut the lead to nine goals, Davenport responded with five goals of their own to bring the lead up to 14 goals. Aquinas never scored more than three un-answered goals during the whole game.
