HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport got off to a hot start in the first period scoring the opening four goals, two of which were scored by Ries. After the Panthers took an early four-goal lead Aquinas scored back-to-back goals cutting the lead down to two. Ries and Knoll each scored a goal that quickly built the lead back up to four goals. Davenport strung two separate runs of three un-answered goals in the last 10 minutes of the period to create a nine-goal lead after 30 minutes of play.
The second period saw the defenses for both teams improve; only giving up a combined 10 goals between the two teams. Davenport only had one moment in the second period were Aquinas was able to score two consecutive goals. The nine-goal lead that Davenport possessed heading into the second period was too much for the Saints to overcome, especially with the constant offensive pressure that the Panthers were applying.
