LIVONIA, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team maintained second place in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference with a 5-3 win at Madonna on Saturday. The Panthers (22-10, 13-3 WHAC) have a half-game lead over Indiana Tech while Madonna (17-11, 10-4 WHAC) is currently fifth.
The tandem of
Grant Wolfram and
Jonathan Cheshire gave up eight hits and stranded eight runners. Wolfram improved to 8-1 and did so despite allowing three earned runs for the first time in a start since Oct. 1 at Northwestern Ohio. He went 5.1 innings and walked two with three strikeouts. Cheshire was brilliant in relief going 3.2 innings and allowing just two hits and no runs for his fifth save. He walked two and fanned six throwing 64 pitches (42 strikes).
Johno Rodriguez took the loss in 5.2 innings of work and allowed seven hits and four earned runs.
Austin Petravicius had a pair of RBI including a double which was the team's only extra-base hit.
Anthony DiPonio and
Cameron Bair each had two hits in four at-bats. Bair,
Andrew Figueroa and
Jeremy Vasquez each had a RBI for the Panthers.
