Haley Obetts scores two game winning runs to help team improve to 13-1 on the year

CLERMONT, Fla. – Davenport continues their spectacular start to the 2017 season with two more wins down in Florida. The Panthers took a 5-3 win over the University of Mary and snagged a clutch win against Cleary University. Senior Haley Obetts had herself quite a day as she contributed a double and a run during the win against Mary, then blasted a game winning home run during the win over Cleary.

Emily Maves (W, 6-0) 7 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 14 SO

Throughout this entire game Davenport seemed to have control over the University of Mary. The Panthers scored in four of the six innings they were up to bat and only allowed the Marauders to score during one inning. The University of Mary made things interesting when they tied the game up in the top of the fourth with three innings to tie the game 3-3. Obetts scored, what would end being the game winning run, off a single by Rowe in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Maves had 14 strikeouts during the game and tied her own record for fourth highest number of strikeouts in a game by a single pitcher.

Game 2 (Thursday, March 2 at 2:00 p.m.)
Final score: #15 Davenport-1 | Cleary University-0
Location: Clermont, Fla.
Records: DU (13-1) | CU (7-3)

INSIDE THE BOX
Lindsay Tasma (1-2, BB)
Obetts (1-2, R, RBI, SH, HR)
Obetts scored her second game winning run of the day after her home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Mallory Teunissen (W, 6-1) 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO

This game was a defense heavy game as both teams combined for only six hits. Teunissen gave up only three hits, walked zero batters and struck out seven batters. The game was moving extremely fast as three up and three down was becoming a familiar phrase to the fans watching. With two outs left in the bottom of the seventh inning Obetts came up to bat. With being a senior Obetts has seen it all and wasn't shook by the pressure that was presented. She knocked a home run to left field and trotted around the bases with a giant smile on her face.
