LAKELAND, Fla. – The Panthers competed against a top five nationally ranked team in Southeastern on Monday and split the double header 1-1. The team tied the program record for most consecutive wins to start a season with their first game upset of the Fire. The game was won off of a two run home run by
Alyssa Eastman during the top of the seventh inning. Southeastern came back in the second game and won 9-0 to split the double header 1-1.

In a battle of two NAIA All-American pitchers
Emily Maves outlasted her opponent Lindsie Scholwinski. Both pitchers were on the mound for all seven innings and Maves gave up only two earned runs, while Scholwinski gave up four earned runs. The game was tied heading into the final inning, with DU up to bat first. With two outs and a runner on second base Eastman stepped up to the plate. She blasted a home run to left field to give the Panthers a 4-2 leading heading into the bottom of the seventh. Maves escaped the bottom of the seventh only giving up one walk.
Davenport tied their program record of nine consecutive wins to start off a season with the 4-2 victory over the Fire. The last time DU started off the season with nine consecutive wins was in the 2015 season.

The Fire came out in the second game ready to play as they scored nine runs in six innings. Davenport was not able to to get going on the offensive side of the ball as they were shut out. However, the Panthers were able to gather six total hits during the game.
UP NEXT
Davenport competed against Calumet College of Saint Joseph earlier this morning and defeated them in both games. The team will take a one-day break before competing against University of Mary and Cleary University on Thursday.
