NAIA Cheer Championship Qualifiers Announced

DU is one of 12 teams that will compete for a national title

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Four qualifying group champions and eight at-large bids will make their way to Oklahoma City, Okla., March 10 - 11 for the 2017 NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship, the national office announced Sunday

The 2017 event is hosted by Oklahoma City (Okla.) and will take place at the Abe Lemons Arena. Cheer routines will start at 6:45 p.m. on March 10 and will commence at 10 a.m. on March 11 with the awards ceremony scheduled for 2:25 p.m.

The 2017 season marks the first year the sport will conduct a NAIA National Championship. The NAIA is the only collegiate athletics association to offer a national championship in these two sports. Competitive Cheer and Dance is the first to earn national championship status within the NAIA in a span of 22 years.
