UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - In a much anticipated matchup for the men's soccer team, the Panthers showed they are right there among the best in the GLIAC in a 1-0 loss at No. 13 Saginaw Valley State on Sunday. Davenport and SVSU battled back-and-forth with the Cardinals getting an early goal in the 8th minute from Connor Rutz which held up for the remainder of the match.
Rutz scored his fifth goal of the season with an assist from Oakley Hanger on a cross and then one-timer from 10 yards. The Panthers had a quick start in the second half as
Brayden Texer had back-to-back shots on goal in the first two-plus minutes. The Panthers had more offensive pressure in the second half with eight shots compared to two for Saginaw Valley State. Both teams would finish with four shots on goal while DU totaled 13 total shots.Â
