Panthers Stifling Defense Contributes To 34 Point Win At Madonna

Davenport held their opponent to under 60 for the fifth time this season

Livonia, Mich. – Davenport starts off the 2017 year on the right foot with a 34-point win at Madonna University. The Panthers held their opponent to under 60 points for the fifth time this season, holding the Crusaders to 8.3% shooting from the three-point line. Multiple players score in double digits and the bench had major contributions throughout the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Davenport and Madonna traded baskets for about five minutes to start off the game and at the 15:29 mark the game was tied 6-6. Over the next six minutes and 30 seconds Davenport went on a 15 point run while holding the Crusaders score less. Five of the six field goals made were assisted and the Panthers went 6/10 from the field during the stretch. Shortly after the 15 point run DU went on another run of 12-5 over a three minute and 54 second period.  With 5:05 left in the first half the Crusaders had only 11 points and Davenport held them to just 20 points in the half.
 
Madonna came out in the second half with some fire in them as they went on a 11-4 run in four minutes. After a timeout by head coach Burt Paddock, the Panthers racked up ten un-answered points in only one minute and 33 seconds to bring their lead to 27 points. The lead would never get lower then 25 points for the rest of the game and the Panthers lead peaked at 41 with 5:29 left in regulation.
 
The scoring was spread across the board for Davenport. Javon Haines had nine points, Khadim Dieng had nine, Andia Marsh had ten, Kevin Rich had 11, and Dawid Czerniawski/Robbie Bramhill led the team with 12 points a piece. Rich was chosen as DU's player of the game with his 11 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Czerniawski was an extremely efficient 6/6 from the field and C.J. VanTImmeren led the team in rebounds with eight.
 
Davenport gears up for a heavy weight battle against conference rival Cornerstone University on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are 16-1 and ranked first in the nation. The game will take place at the DU Student Center and has a start time of 3:00 p.m.
