GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The newcomer made a huge difference in the first match of the 2016 season for the No. 5 men's soccer team on Saturday night in a 2-1 win over Olivet Nazarene. Sophomore
Tyler Collishaw broke a scoreless tie in the 73rd minute and two minutes later gave DU a 2-0 lead as they held on for the one-goal margin of victory. Collishaw entered as a reserve in the first half and proved to be a spark plug in the second half in his debut with the team.
Cam Cavanagh assisted on the first goal on a shot into the lower left from 20 yards.
Jake Love assisted on the second goal which was a cross from right wing to the toes of Collishaw who buried the pass in front. The Tigers answered quickly in the 77th minute as Christian Henock-Berhanu rifled a pass from Blake Van Bruggen into the lower right past a diving
Aaron Orban from about 25 yards. Orban had a pair of excellent saves in the first half against Van Bruggen to keep the match scoreless through 45 minutes.
The Tigers had a golden opportunity to tie the match with about seven minutes remaining as Clay Selby broke in one-on-one against Orban. The junior keeper was up to the challenge as he preserved the lead with a great save coming out of the box. Olivet Nazarene had seven shots on goal compared to six for the Panthers.Â
