Late Rally Gives Olivet Nazarene a 7-5 win over Davenport

Tigers score 6 in the top of the seventh for comeback victory

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The first game of the NAIA National Opening Round Davenport Bracket proved to be a big comeback for Olivet Nazarene as they scored six times in the top of the seventh for a 7-5 win over second-seeded Davenport at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex.

The Panthers led 1-0 in the bottom of the third as Lauren French led off with a double to right. Sarah Schneidenbach reached on a one-out walk and McKenzie Rowe singled home French for the run-scoring play. Olivet Nazarene tied the game in the top of the fifth as Alyssa Pusateri reached on a leadoff error on a dropped pop-up. Lindsey Krippel was then hit by a pitch with one out. With two outs, Megan Semro singled to left allowing Pusateri to score from second.

The Panthers answered right back in the bottom of the fifth with four runs to take a 5-1 lead. Rowe doubled to left center with one out and Carli SanMillan walked to put two runners on base. Lindsay Tasma singled to left allowing Rowe to score the go-ahead run. Alyssa Eastman then launched her 13th homer of the season over the center field wall for a 5-1 lead.

The Tigers made the big comeback in the seventh as Pusateri singled to left to start things. Ashley McKnight then reached on a three-base error allowing Pusateri to score. Emily Carstens had a sharp RBI single to center to make it 5-3. Katie Megyesi then drove home a run to cut it to 5-4. The biggest hit was a double by Pusateri which plated a pair to give ONU a 7-5 lead.

Davenport put the tying run on first with one out but a pair of fly outs ended the game. Davenport will play tomorrow at 3 p.m. while Olivet Nazarene will play tomorrow at noon. The loser of Southeastern/Indiana Wesleyan will play DU and the winner will face ONU.
