GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Davenport baseball team earned a split on Sunday with Indiana Tech to take three of four games over the weekend series with the Warriors. Davenport stands at 28-9 overall and 16-2 in the WHAC while the Warriors are currently 26-11 overall and 10-8 in the conference. The Panthers hold a 2.5-game lead over Madonna atop the standings while Indiana Tech is in sixth place and six games behind Davenport.
The Warriors got a strong starting performance in game one from James McReynolds. He threw all nine innings and gave up seven hits to improve to 6-1. He allowed just two earned runs with no walks and seven strikeouts. McReynolds threw 114 pitches with 82 hitting the strike zone.
Brandon White was strong as well in seven innings but took the loss (3-1). White allowed just four hits and one earned run with a walk and six strikeouts.
Alex Schuiling gave up two earned runs in 2/3 of an inning.
Jonathan Cheshire and
Krystien Johnson-Batillana also threw out of the bullpen.
Travis Bolin hit his 12th home run of the season to tie the single-season record with a two-run shot to left in the eighth.
Brian Sobieski hit his 13th double in four at-bats.
Connor Seymour and
JP North also had a RBI in the 7-5 loss to the Warriors. It was the first home loss this season for DU (10-1).
Corbin Clouse was the story of game two in DU's 7-0 win. He threw a complete game, seven-inning shutout allowing four hits with four walks and tied a career-high with 10 strikeouts. Johnny Crawford took the loss for Indiana Tech lasting 3.1 innings and yielding five earned runs and seven hits.
The Panthers had a total of six extra-base hits (3 doubles, 3 triples) in game two. Bolin had two triples making seven for the season just one shy of tying single-season record. He went 2-for-2 with three runs and a walk.
Zac Wilson had a two-run triple in the four-run fourth inning.
Matt Priebe had a pair of doubles giving him 13 this season going 3-for-3 with two RBI.
Brandon Larkin-Guilfoyle got his seventh double and went 2-for-3 with a RBI.
