BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. - The DU women's lacrosse team ran their winning streak to five games Saturday as they took down No. 4 Lawrence Tech 14-11 to improve their 2016 overall record to 5-1 with a 4-0 mark in the WHAC.
DU jumped out to the early lead with three goals in the first ten minutes of action.
Hanna Bush tallied the opening goal for the Panthers at the 26:38 mark and
Brooke Knoll followed with two goals. DU would go on to tally four more goals while allowing LTU to score just twice as they held a commanding 7-2 lead midway through the first half.
Sara Kuzava tallied a goal, Bush added her second of the game, and
Amber Livingston recorded a pair of scores as the Panthers overwhelmed the Blue Devils early. LTU would respond with four unanswered goals and DU would tally one more score as the Blue Devils trimmed the Panther lead to 8-6 at the break.
The second half saw the Panthers pull away again as four unanswered DU goals left the Panthers up 14-7 with four minutes remaining in the game.
Jessica Lemcke recorded two goals while Bush also scored twice more in the second half as a part of six second half scores for DU. The Blue Devils would attempt a late comeback attempt as they recorded four goals in less than two minutes of gametime, but the Panthers shut the door and recorded the 14-11 victory.
Bush went on to lead DU with four goals and one assist. Knoll and Livingston each scored three goals and Lemcke added two scores. The Panthers held the slight edge in ground balls (23-22) with
Samantha Powers leading DU with six. Powers (5-1) earned the win in goal for DU with nine saves in 60 minutes of action.
