BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Panthers saw a pair of one-run games Tuesday afternoon as Webber International University hosted DU for a double-header. The Panthers had great performances in the circle from their starters on their way to a sweep of the host Warriors by scores of 2-1 and 3-2 in eight innings.
Junior pitcher
Emily Maves recorded a complete game shutout with 13 strikeouts in the first game as she recorded her fifth complete game of the season and her fourth game with double-digit strikeouts. She saw her offense come through with the go ahead run in the top of the sixth inning as DU took over a 1-0 lead.
Carli SanMillan singled through the left side and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Alyssa Koziol then came through with a clutch double to left center that scored SanMillan to give DU lead for good.
Maves (5-1) earned her second shutout of the season by allowing just two hits over seven innings pitched. SanMillan recorded a 1-for-3 game with a run scored and Koziol had a 1-for-2 game at the plate with an RBI and a walk.
Freshman pitcher
Mallory Teunissen (3-0) followed with a great performance in the circle in game two as she kept the Panthers in the game with eight innings pitched to pick up her third win of the season by allowing just six hits and one earned run.
DU needed extra innings to push past the Warriors for the sweep. Koziol would record the game-winning run on a
Nicole Vitale sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth before Teunissen retired the side in order in the bottom of the inning to help DU advance its overall record to 9-2.
Webber scored a run in the bottom of the third when a fielder's choice ground ball gave the Warriors the 1-0 lead. The teams would trade runs in the fifth before DU tied the game in their final at bat to force extra innings. SanMillan hit into a fielder's choice that scored pinch runner
Sam Merren as the Panthers tied the game in their final at bat.
Lindsay Tasma recorded a 2-for-3 game with two doubles and
Aby Brambila went 1-for-4 with an RBI.
