SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Panthers ran into No. 10 Dakota Wesleyan Friday morning in a Second Round matchup with the Tigers. DU fought the Tigers early as Dakota Wesleyan carried a 25-19 lead after the first quarter. DU battled to an eight-point halftime deficit, but the Panthers could not take over the lead. DWU carried their lead in the second half to 20 points before the Panthers brought the game back to a 10-point margin. DU ran out of time as the Tigers handed the Panthers a 87-77 loss and ended the season for DU at a 28-6 overall record.
Senior guard
Alex Law fueled the DU offense early as she recorded eight points in the first quarter on the way to a team-high 13 points at the break. The Panthers saw themselves in a 38-25 deficit in the second quarter before they took a 12-2 run to climb back into the game. Senior guard
Shaina Johnson helped spark this second quarter comeback as she recorded seven points for the quarter to help DU fight to a 45-37 score at the break.
The second half saw the Tigers build on their lead as they built their advantage over the Panthers to 20 points. Amber Bray helped Dakota Weselyan pull away as she added to her 14 first half points with seven second half points on 7-for-12 shooting for the game. The Tigers shots 56.4% from the floor for the game while DU shot 44.9% as the Panthers could not climb back into the game in the second half.
Mallory Sewell gave DU a presence in the paint as she totaled 10 points for the game on 5-for-8 shooting. The Panthers battled to the final minutes as Law would add to her team-high scoring total with 21 points for the game. Johnson recorded 14 points on 5-for-6 shooting as DU fought back to an 87-77 final score.
The Panthers won the game on the glass by a 34-29 margin and forced 16 Tiger turnovers while they totaled nine steals.
