SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Davenport women's basketball team allowed Lourdes to hang around for the first seven minutes on Saturday before putting them away with a 99-39 conference win. The Panthers led 10-7 at the 2:35 mark of the first quarter after a free throw by
Jenna Falkenberg. The team closed out the quarter on a 7-2 run on a layup by
Chri Carter and
Courtney Murphy along with a triple by
Emily Severn.
The Grey Wolves could not muster much offense in the second quarter thanks to DU's tough defense. The outcome was a 23-8 edge which led to a 40-17 halftime lead. Davenport shot 42.1 percent in the second quarter while Lourdes had just three field goals including a pair of three's.
The game got out of hand in the third quarter as the Panthers were plus-30 in the quarter (35-5). That allowed the bench to get some big minutes and they took advantage. Freshman
Ashley Cline needed just 14 minutes to establish her new career-high of 16 points. She connected on 5-of-8 from the floor including 4-of-6 from the arc. Cline has played 41 minutes this season and is shooting 15-of-21 (.714) from the floor including 8-of-12 behind the arc.
Michaela Faber saw eight minutes and totaled eight points and nine rebounds. Falkenberg scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds in 13 minutes. She has back-to-back double digit rebound games and four total this season.
In total, DU's bench outscored Lourdes 66-9 as
Hannah Wilkerson was the third player off the bench in double figures with 10 points. She has back-to-back scoring games in double figures and three for the season. Carter was the lone starter in double figures with 14 points and also had nine assists to tie her career-high. Davenport improves to 12-1 overall and 8-0 in the WHAC and is also 11-0 all-time against Lourdes.
