GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport bounces back after their Monday loss and beats up on Siena Heights tonight for their third conference win. The Panthers beat the Saints 84-57 and improved to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The team had a lot of contribution from their bench and were sharing the ball extremely well.
The Saints came out firing early as they took a four-point lead after six minutes of play. The tide shifted after
Kevin Rich hit a couple jump shots to create a seven points lead with under eight minutes to play in the half. More than half of the team's points came off the bench in the first half as the starters only combined for 14 points. The bench contributed a total of 24 points,
Khadim Dieng (6),
Thomas Hood (8),
Robbie Bramhill (4) and
Cameron Burns (6). Davenport was very team oriented tonight as they assisted on 11 of the 14 made field goals during the first half. The Panthers led at half time by five points, 38-33.
Davenport turned up the heat in the second half as the lead was increased significantly. Senior
Dawid Czerniawski was in the groove tonight as he went five for five from the field for 11 points. At the 13:59 mark Davenport had a seven-point lead, over the next five minutes and 53 seconds the Panthers went on a 13-0 run to put the Saints away. For the next eight minutes Davenport continued to increase their lead and finished off the last couple minutes with a pair of break away dunks by
CJ VanTimmeren. The team finished with 24 assists on the 33 made field goals and tallied 12 steals on the night.
The Panthers improved to 8-3 on the year and 3-1 in conference play. Davenport hosts Lawrence Tech this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in the DU Student Center.
