GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The women's soccer team played a tough match against Northwestern Ohio today but ultimately were unable to score a goal in a 2-0 loss. Northwestern Ohio was crowned the winners of the WHAC tournament and were given the automatic bid to the national tournament.
Northwestern Ohio scored in the third minute of play on a shot by Robyn Moodaly to take an early 1-0 lead over the Panthers. The rest of the first half was a battle between the two teams. Neither team would get very many opportunities to score as they combined for only six shots on the half. The Racers goal was the only shot on goal during the first half.
Both teams made adjustments and continued the battle into the second half. Each team started wearing down the others defense and recorded some shots on net. Davenport had three shots on net in the second half and the Racers had four shots on goal. Things got pretty physical as the Panthers were given three yellow cards during the half.
Cynthia Konan,
Lacey Chanady and Nea-Stine Liljedahl all were given a yellow.
Alex Prout tallied two shots on goal and
Shameeka Fishley had one shot on goal.
The Panthers are currently 18-2-1 and anxiously awaiting to see if their season will continue. Even though Davenport has a stellar record they are not guaranteed to make it into the national tournament and will have to receive an at large bid in order to go.
