Box Score GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The women's hockey team picked up a season-opening win on Friday night with a 5-2 win over visiting Midland University at Patterson Ice Center. In period one, Davenport opened up the scoring early as Courtney Curlee fired a wrist shot in the top right corner at 19:19. Minutes later Midland's Issy Uni-Chimel answered back with a quick wrist shot just over Karley Ferguson's pads. The rest of the period Davenport dominated with possession but couldn't get anymore past Midland goaltender Tessa Singleton.

The second period started off with Davenport's Lexie Boydston flicking one over the glove of Singleton to put DU ahead 2-1 at the 15:28 mark. Moments later Davenport got another quick one with Curlee putting away her second of the night.

Just like the first two periods, Davenport opened the third with a goal. The goal was a power play tally scored by Ashley Reese and assisted by Boydston at 13:48. Just after DU got rolling Midland tried to put a stop to it with a goal by Jess Laidlaw, but it wasn't enough to shut the team down. Just after the Midland goal, Boydston put away her second of the night with a wrist shot at 5:24 remaining.
