No. 8 Spring Arbor Drops Panthers, 3-1

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The Panthers hosted the No. 8 Spring Arbor University Cougars Tuesday night in their second match of the season. Davenport gained the early 1-0 lead before the Cougars found their stride and took the match, 3-1.

The Panthers took the 1-0 advantage in the 25th minute as Nea-Stina Liljedahl notched her first goal of the season off of a Shameeka Fishley corner kick. The Cougars then responded quickly with the tying goal just four minutes of action later to put the pressure back on Davenport. Spring Arbor would ride this momentum to a 2-1 lead after the first half as they outshot the Panthers 7-to-2 on goal.

The Panthers would battle throughout the second half as they looked to tie the game, but the Cougars managed to pull ahead for good, 3-1, in the 73rd minute. Goalkeeper Tara Gessler played a stout game in goal for the Panthers as she kept Davenport alive for all 90 minutes with an eight-save performance.
