BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – In the Panthers WHAC opener of the 2015 season, the second-ranked women's lacrosse team took down Lourdes, 17-5.
Kaitlyn Lowden led the Lady Panthers with five goals in the game against the Gray Wolves. Davenport will return to action next weekend as they head back to Detroit Country Day School to play Indiana Tech next Saturday at 9:30 p.m.
After Lowden scored five goals for Davenport,
Taylor Balch and
Brooke Knoll recorded their second hat-tricks of the season as they both chipped in with three goals and one assist apiece.
Tara Pluger was the only other Panther to have a multi-goal game as she tallied two goals and two assists.
The Panthers got on the board early, as
Mackenzie VanDerWarf scored her only goal of the game just 12 seconds into the game after she was able to win the draw control and take the ball down the field to beat the Lourdes goalie. The Gray Wolves were able to tie the game just two minutes later, but the Panthers were able to score the next five goals as they took a 6-1 lead with 12:34 left in the first half. Davenport took a 9-3 lead into the half after Pluger scored her first goal of the game with just four seconds left in the first half.
In the second half, Davenport continued to control the game as they scored the first eight goals of the second half to jump out to a 17-3 lead with 5:24 left in the game. Emily Devries,
Hanna Bush and
Mariah Newton all scored their first goals of the season for the Panthers during the 8-0 run. The Gray Wolves were able to score the last two goals of the game, but Davenport went onto win 17-5.
The Panthers are now 2-0 on the season and they are now 1-0 in WHAC games. DU will head back to Beverly Hills, Mich., next Saturday to take on Indiana Tech at 9:30 p.m.
