Panthers Split Pair at Battle of the Bay

DU beat LSSU 12-0 on Saturday and lost 2-1 in overtime to MSU on Sunday

ALPENA, Mich. - The women's hockey team split a pair of games this weekend at the Battle of the Bay at Northern Lights Arena against Lake Superior State and Michigan State.

The Panthers had their biggest margin of victory this season on Saturday in a 12-0 romp over the Lakers. The first period saw three goals followed by seven in the second and two more in the third. The 12 goals was marks the most scored in a game by DU in program history. Laken Kunz scored once in the first and twice more in the second for the hat trick. She also assisted on two more goals for a five-point, career game. Lexie Boydston also netted a hat trick for the Panthers. She scored once in each period and also had five points with two assists. Adrienne Porcalla became the third player for DU with a hat trick. She scored all three of her goals in the middle frame. Megan Martin, Caitlin Dunne and Sam Rogers also scored for DU who finished with 65 shots on goal compared to just four for LSSU.

Davenport (4-11) dropped a 2-1 overtime decision against Michigan State on Sunday as the Spartans are 3-0 against DU including two overtime wins this season. The matinee featured 26 shots by MSU and 24 for the Panthers. Both teams failed to score on the power play as DU had five tries and MSU had three chances. Jenny Deane scored her second goal of the season in the first from Porcalla and Kunz. The game was tied in the second period as Kelsey Cross got an assist from Olivia Lord. The Spartans picked up their eighth win in overtime as Breana Kraut scored the winner from Kendall Clary. Karley Ferguson stopped 24 shots in net for DU.
