GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's soccer team got off to a fast start and didn't look back in a 4-1 win over Cornerstone University on Wednesday night. The Panthers scored on their first shot on goal in the fourth minute as freshman
Adam Farrell got space in the middle of the field and finished to the left lower corner from about 18 yards out. Farrell's second of the season gave Davenport breathing room and they did not let up.
Joan Nievas scored his fifth of the season in the 28th minute as
Jake Love delivered a great pass into the box and Nievas converted from the right wing for a 2-0 lead. Love got into the action himself in the 39th minute on a great hustle play. He took a long pass and beat his man before scoring from right wing around the 15-yard mark.
After halftime the Panthers added another goal as T.J. Ifaturoti got a gift after a defensive lapse by the Golden Eagles. The goalkeeper and CU defender both failed to clear the ball and Ifaturoti walked the ball into net in the 71st minute for his 16th goal of the season. Cornerstone broke up the shutout as Davenport made a goalkeeper change from
Aaron Orban to
Kyler Jacobs. Diego Bobadilla got Jacobs to lean the wrong way and unleashed a strike from roughly 35 yards to the top right corner for his fifth of the season in the 84th minute.
DU held a 10-3 edge in shots on goal as the Panthers had five in each half. Orban made both saves for the Panthers. The team won for the third straight time against Cornerstone which is the longest win streak in series history.
