SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Davenport women's basketball team returned to action on Wednesday night in the their second of three conference road games this week against Lawrence Tech.
Daina Grazulis led the Lady Panthers with 22 points and nine rebounds and
Linnea Brandholm chipped in with 11 points as DU went onto win 70-47. Davenport will round out their three game week on the road in Ann Arbor, Mich., against Concordia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Daina Grazulis led the Lady Panthers with 27 points and nine rebounds, the senior also went 11-for-17 from the field.
Linnea Brandholm was the only other Panther in double figures with 11 points and went 3-for-6 from behind the arc.
Kia Frazier led the team with six assists, while
Kelly Dineen chipped in with five.
To start the game, Davenport took an early 10-4 lead and they looked to pull away right out of the gate, but Lawrence Tech was able to keep the game in reach. Davenport had their largest lead of the half with 6:03 left in the half after
Daina Grazulis knocked down a pair of free throws to give the Panthers a 27-18 lead over the Blue Devils. Lawrence Tech was able to charge back into the game as they took a 34-32 lead into the locker room. Davenport struggled from the field as they shot 33.3 percent for the half as they trailed at halftime for the first time all season.
The Lady Panthers came out strong to start the second half as they started the half on a 26-4 run in the first 9:24 of the half. Davenport shot the ball better in the second half as they shot 57.7 percent from the field to finish the game shooting 44.1 percent for the game. DU was able to go on to beat Lawrence Tech 70-47 and move to 15-0 on the season and 9-0 in the WHAC.
The Lady Panthers will continue their road stretch to start the semester as they face Concordia on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Post-Game NotesThe Lady Panthers trailed at halftime of the game, which was the first time they trailed at the break all season and it was the first time in 27 games that the Lady Panthers started the second half trailing… The 27 points from Grazulis was the fifth time she surpassed the 20 point mark this season and the 27 points is the second most she has had this season after a 31 point game against Cardinal Stritch to start the season… The Lady Panthers allowed 13 points in the second half, which is the least they allowed in a half this season and the second lowest in school history.
