Men’s Basketball out Duels Lawrence Tech in Defensive Battle

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Davenport men's basketball team was back in action for the second time in three days as they faced off against Lawrence Tech. In a defensive battle, the Panthers were able to edge out the Blue Devils 48-42, as Dominez Burnett led the team with 18 points and Dawid Czerniawski chipped in with 12. Davenport will close out their three game week as they face Concordia on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Mich.
 
For the second consecutive game, Dominez Burnett tallied a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team in both categories. Dawid Czerniawski chipped in with 11 points to round out the Panthers in double figures. As a team, Davenport shot 48.8 percent from the field, but only shot 11.1 percent from behind the arc.
 
Davenport scored the first five points of the game with Wes Webbert tallying the first three for the team. Lawrence Tech took a 9-7 lead with 10:20 left in the first half, but the Panthers were able to regain the lead as they played strong defense throughout the half allowing the Blue Devils to shoot just 21.7 percent from the field. Davenport was able to take a 21-13 into the half despite turning the ball over seven times in the half.
 
The Panthers jumped out to their largest lead of the game with 19:27 left in the second as Dawid Czerniawski gave the Panthers 25-13 lead in the early going of the half. Lawrence Tech was able to battle back from the deficit to take a 32-31 lead with 10:55 left in regulation. The Blue Devils tied the game at 40 with 5:11 left in the half, but the Panthers put together an 8-2 run to close the game and come away with a 48-42 win.
 
The Panthers will be on the road for the third straight game as they travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face Concordia on Saturday at 3 p.m.
 
Post-Game Notes
This is the first time all season that the Panthers were held to under 50 points in a game, but it was also the first Davenport held their opponent under 50 points…Davenport took a season low nine three pointers and made just one shot from behind the arc, which was also a season low
