Perfect Day Lifts No. 24 Volleyball to Julie Martin Title

LIVONIA, Mich.  – The No. 24 ranked volleyball team extended their winning streak to five straight as they picked up two more wins on the final day of the Julie Martin Memorial Classic hosted by Madonna. DU opened the day with a sweep of Saint Xavier (Ill.) before taking down Lewis-Clark State in straight sets. The Panthers will travel across town on Wednesday to continue league action when they take on Aquinas College at 7 p.m.

Match 1 – Davenport 3, Saint Xavier – Ill. 0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-19)

The day got started off on the right foot as the Panthers disposed of the Cougars in straight sets for their third consecutive sweep and it upped their set unbeaten streak to 12. The offense continued to click as three different players accounted for at least seven kills led by Marcey DeHaan's 12 kills on just 19 attempts.

The defense posted 5.0 blocks and limited the Cougar offense to a .181 hitting percentage as Krissy Dill (10) and Morgan Torres (8) led the digging effort.

Match 2 – Davenport 3, #RV Lewis-Clark State (25-16, 25-21, 25-13)

The cross-over match pitted the top team from Pool B (Davenport) vs the second place team from Pool A (Lewis-Clark) and the Panthers finished off their perfect run with a 25-16, 25-21, 25-13 victory over the Warriors. LCSC came into the match receiving votes in the national poll and almost pulled off a shocking upset on Friday, falling in five sets to No. 4 ranked Madonna.

The story of the match was the defense as DU posted nine blocks and held the Warrior offense to a dismal -.010 hitting percentage which included hitting negative in two of the three sets.

The offense was paced by junior Molly Lameyer as she finished with 10 terminations while Amber Getty posted a double-double of 25 assists and 10 digs.

Davenport will get back into conference action on Wednesday when they head up the East Beltline to face cross-town foe Aquinas College at 7 p.m.

Post-Tournament Notes
Davenport has now won its last five matches overall and have won 15 straight sets in that time…The matchup with Lewis-Clark State was the first ever meeting with the Warriors…Hannah Stone was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player while Marcey DeHaan made the All-Tournament Team
