FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Kaitlyn Lowden scored three goals for a hat trick, Jessica Lemcke and Bridget Zuidgeest had two and three each scored one, but it was not enough as the fourth-ranked Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team struck first and held on to a 14-10 win over No. 2 Davenport on a rainy Monday evening. The Panthers, having suffered their second straight defeat, fall to 13-2 overall and 8-2 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.
The Warriors (8-4, 8-2 WHAC) got the win they needed to clinch at least a share of the WHAC title with Davenport and Aquinas. While all three are co-champions of the WHAC, the league office will now use a tiebreaker procedure to determine the seeding and which school will host the semifinal, third-place and championship games this weekend.
Along with the hat trick, Lowden also notched the Panthers only assist on the evening. Natalie McHale led the effort on the defensive side with two caused turnovers and five groundballs. Lemcke added four groundballs and draw controls each on the day. Samantha Powers made two saves and picked up one groundball between the pipes.
Indiana Tech took a 1-0 lead one minute into the game and added another 1:57 later. Hanna Bush cut the deficit in half with 25:44 left but the Warriors knocked in two more goals to take a 4-1 lead.
The Panthers erased a three-goal deficit and tied the game five apiece thanks to Emily DeVries, Lemcke and Lowden, but Indiana Tech broke the tie and went into intermission with a 7-5 lead.
A pair of free position goals by Zuidgeest helped Davenport cut the lead to 10-8 with 12:31 left but a four-goal run by Indiana Tech helped it secure the win.
