No. 19 Men’s Tennis Posts Pair of Wins over Indiana Wesleyan and Taylor

MARION/UPLAND, Ind. – The Davenport Men's Tennis team continued its hot streak heading into conference play as they picked up a pair of wins over Crossroads League foes Indiana Wesleyan (6-3) and Taylor (8-1) on Saturday. The Panthers (15-4) have now won seven consecutive matches as they open WHAC play on Tuesday when they host Cornerstone University at 4 p.m.

Davenport 6, Indiana Wesleyan 3

In a battle against the Wildcats, who were one of three teams to tie for the Crossroads League title and receiving votes in the national poll, DU took two of three doubles matches and followed with four wins in singles play. Jordan Parker and Matheus Moreira de Carvalho won at No. 1 doubles 8-5 while the brother combo of Tyler Chambers and Zac Chambers won at No. 3 8-1.

In singles, DU got wins from Parker (6-2, 5-7, 6-3), Sam Rogerson (6-4, 6-2), Zac Chambers (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) and Tyler Chambers (6-4, 6-4).

Davenport 8, Taylor 1
Taylor was playing its first match of the spring season and Davenport was able to get some different lineups in the match as they easily defeated the Trojans on their home court.

DU won all three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-11. In singles, Haja Denise and Kevin Slagh each won in straight sets as Denise won at No. 5 6-4, 6-0 and Slagh and No. 6 6-0, 6-2. Also taking singles matches were Juan-Philip van Antwerpen at No. 1 (6-2, 6-3), Christian Woods at No. 2 (5-7, 6-4, 6-1) and Tyler Chambers at No. 3 (6-0, 6-0).

Davenport will open conference play on Tuesday when they host Cornerstone at 4 p.m. and they will follow with a showdown with No. 9 Aquinas on Wednesday.
