GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Davenport men's rugby hosted Life University in both teams' regular season finales on Saturday.
Brady Gent was successful on two penalty kicks for six points; Life pulled away in the second half scoring four tries to win 27-6. Davenport concludes their regular season with a 0-6 record in the Mid-South Conference and is 5-8 overall this season. The Panthers will now wait and see whom they play in the D1A National Tournament.
Davenport came out charging as they looked to win their first conference game and upset second-ranked Life University. Life was able to get on the board early with a penalty kick in the third minute. Both teams played an even game in the first half.
Brady Gent converted on penalty kick to tie the game at three heading into half time.
To start the second half, Gent was successful on another penalty kick to give the Panthers a 6-3 lead with 36 minutes remaining in the second half. The Running Eagles then rattled off four straight tries to end the game. Life went 2-for-4 on conversions as they went onto win the game 27-6.
Davenport dropped to 0-6 in conference play to finish the regular season. Life, who already won the conference title last weekend, completed their undefeated season in conference play.
The Panthers will now wait to see whom they will play in the D1A National Tournament next Saturday.
