GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Playing their second match in less than 24 hours and their second in a four-match weekend, the No. 20 ranked men's tennis team soundly defeated Cardinal Stritch 9-0 at the East Paris Courts in Grand Rapids. DU did not drop a set while cruising to their second straight sweep as they will face Marian and St. Francis on Saturday.
Davenport took control from the doubles portion of Friday night's match and never looked back as they cruised to a 9-0 win over visiting Cardinal Stritch.
Carvalho and Parker won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and it would be the closest match of the night as DU also got doubles wins from
Sam Rogerson/
Juan-Philip van Antwerpen (8-2) as well as
Tyler Chambers and
Zac Chambers (8-5).
Playing in singles and not doubles was
Christian Woods who won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
DU also got points from Parker, Rogerson, van Antwerpen, and both Chambers' brothers.
The No. 20 ranked Panthers will return to the court on Saturday where they will host Marian at 8:30 a.m. at East Paris before taking on St. Francis (Ill.) at MVP at 2:30.
