No. 13 Volleyball Finishes Season with Sweep Over Host Briar Cliff

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The 13th ranked Davenport volleyball team closed out their 2014 season against host of the 2014 NAIA National Championship final site in Sioux City, Iowa, Briar Cliff (Iowa). Krissy Dill and Hannah Stone led the way for the Lady Panthers with 11 kills apiece. Davenport finishes the season with a 36-9 record, which is a new program high after winning 32 games in 2012.
 
After struggling on offense in the first two matches of pool play, the Panthers had an attacking percentage of .267 against Briar Cliff in the final match of pool play. Hannah Stone and Krissy Dill led the way with 11 kills each, while Molly Lameyer and Marcey DeHaan chipped in with ten kills apiece.
 
To start the match, Briar Cliff jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead over Davenport, before the Panthers were able to tie the first set at seven points apiece and Davenport took their first lead of the match at 9-8 in the first set. Davenport and Briar Cliff continued to battled back-and-forth in the first set as the Panthers were able finish the set on 5-2 run to win the first set 25-23.
 
The second set started the same way as the first set with Briar Cliff taking an early lead, but the Panthers came back to take a 12-11 lead over the Chargers. Davenport was able to hold the lead the rest of the second set as they took a 2-0 after winning the second set 25-22. After the third set was tied 2-2 early, Davenport ran away from Briar Cliff in the final set to complete the sweep with a 25-16 win over the Chargers.
 
The Panthers finished the season with a 36-9 record after making their first appearance at the NAIA National Championship Final Site in Sioux City, Iowa.
 
Post-Game Notes
The 36 wins for the Lady Panthers is the most in program history after winning 32 games in the 2012 season where they made their first appearance in the NAIA National Championships… After tying their season low in blocks with two in their last match, Davenport posted 6.5 total blocks against Briar Cliff… The Lady Panthers now have a 2-3 all-time record in the NAIA National Championship.
