GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.  – After defeating No. 23 Ashford and then falling to No. 7 Viterbo last night Davenport had another busy day at the Panther Invitational defeating Olivet Nazarene and No. RV St. Thomas to finish the tournament 3-1. Both matches ended in 3-1 victories for DU improving them to 19-5 on the season.
Match 1 – Davenport 3, Olivet Nazarene 1 (18-25, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20)In an early morning match after a late finish the previous night DU fell in set one to Olivet Nazarene 18-25. That was plenty of wake up for DU as the came out firing in set two with a .300 hitting percentage and then a .318 percentage in set three. Both sets ended in favor of DU who closed out the match 25-20 in the fourth set.
Molly Lameyer led the offense with 12 kills along with
Hannah Stone's 10. Stone posted a .429 hitting percentage and
Altonia Taylor recorded four block assists for the fourth time this season. Three Panthers ended with double digits in digs (
Amber Getty -11,
Morgan Torres – 11, and
Krissy Dill – 10) and Getty also dished out 35 assists.
Match 2 – Davenport 3, St. Thomas 1 (31-29, 25-18, 18-25, 25-18)The Panthers finished the tournament against a tough St. Thomas team but picked up the four set win to earn their 19
th victory of the season and finished the weekend 3-1. As a team DU posted a season high 14 blocks and tallied a .205 hitting percentage.
Hannah Stone led the way with 16 kills while
Krissy Dill finished with 13 and Molly Lemeyer 12.
Morgan Torres posted a career high 26 digs while
Amber Getty chipped away 55 assists. Stone and
Marcey DeHaan represented the Panthers on the All-Tournament team made up of 14 players from the 12 tournament teams.
Davenport will return to WHAC play on Wednesday when they welcome cross-town rival Aquinas to the DU Student Center for a 7 p.m. match.
