GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Tiesha Stokes had 20 points and nine rebounds, Brittany Johnson had a career-high 17 points and eight rebounds as the duo led the third-ranked Davenport women's basketball team to two major runs in the first half to run away with an 85-44 victory over Concordia Wednesday evening. The Panthers have won 10 straight games and improve to 15-1 overall, 8-1 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference.

While shooting 42.4 from the field and out-rebounding the Cardinals (6-10, 3-9 WHAC) 51-29, the Panthers defense tallied 18 steals and tied their season-high in forcing turnovers with 32.

Kia Frazier also finished the day in double figures with 12 points and also added four steals to lead the team in that category with Kelly Dineen.

While the Cardinals shot 29.1 in field goal range, the Panthers set a season-best for the second straight game of allowing only 44 points. They had also limited the WHAC's leading scorer Brooke Adams to 15 points. Adams was averaging 25 points per game before opening tip.

Davenport wasted no time establishing the runaway lead as Johnson and Frazier each had five points during a 16-2 Panther run in the first 4:41 of the game. Midway through the opening period, Davenport would put the game out of the Cardinals reach using a 23-2 momentum in the span of nearly eight minutes.

Johnson led the way during the opening half with 14 points and seven rebounds. Not far behind her in points was Stokes with 11 and Frazier with 10. As a team, the Panthers shot 45.7 from the field.

For the second straight game the Panthers held their opponent to less than 25 points before halftime. After limiting Aquinas to 22 points last Saturday, the Panthers held Concordia to 24. Despite forcing 19 turnovers, the Panthers could stop the Adams, who went into the locker room with 11 points.

The Panthers didn't find any momentum until the final five minutes of the game, when Molly Babbs had five points during an 11-0 run.

Stokes led Davenport in the latter period with nine points in 11 minutes of work. She also had four rebounds in the half.

The Panthers hit the road to Fort Wayne, Ind., to take on third-place Indiana Tech Saturday at 1 p.m.
