Men's Tennis Schedule
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It may not feel like spring outside but the men's and women's tennis spring seasons are upon us as head coach Patrick Grashorn and the men's team head to Big Rapids on Saturday to face Ferris State University. The Panthers went undefeated in dual matches in the fall and will now begin the spring against an NCAA DII foe. Check out what Grashorn had to say about his team heading into their first match of the spring.
It has been over three months since you last competed as a team, what have you worked on during the winter
After the end of the short fall season, we worked a lot in the weight room and in the gym on explosiveness and injury prevention. More recently, we started playing challenge matches right after the guys came back from holiday break to get back in to the mentality of competitive play.
How is your roster shaping up for this spring
There has been some movement here and there but that doesn't surprise me considering how deep we are. We've changed up some doubles teams but it's hard to get a true feel for compatibility until we get into competitive matches.
What players can we expect to see improvement from the fall season?
All 9 guys have made improvements in at least one aspect of their game. They've shown it in practice but it needs to be tested in match situations.
How will this match serve a leap-forward for the spring season?
We start this season against 3 top schools in the GLIAC and then go down to Florida to play 3 nationally ranked NAIA schools. This will be a tough stretch but I'm excited about the opportunities.
