OXFORD, Ohio –
Chantal Caraher ended Davenport's scoreless drought of four games by netting her 17
th goal of the season before the end of the second period, but Miami (Ohio) tallied three before the first intermission and ran away with a 7-1 win over the Panthers late Friday night to take game one of a pair of Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association games. The two teams will return to Goggin Ice Center for game two Saturday at 5:10 p.m.
A crisp regroup from Sam Rogers to newcomer Catie O'Conner set up Caraher's shot over the Redhawks netminder's glove with ten seconds left in the middle period. It was the first goal for the Panthers (7-13-0, 6-7-0 CCWHA) since the 8:35 mark into the third period against Northeastern two months ago this day.
The Redhawks (15-1-2, 10-1-2 CCWHA) broke the ice during a power play opportunity 4:45 into the game and the eventual game-winner arrived 2:12 later. Miami would collect an insurance policy 17 minutes into the first period.
