FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The host Warriors of Indiana Tech struck first in the 2013 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opener on Saturday afternoon, but Davenport rebounded with a goal to tie it and then scored four more unanswered in the second half to win 5-1. Dzenan Catic posted a pair of goals to give the freshman seven on the season as he helped the Panthers improve to 7-2-0 overall and 1-0-0 in league action. DU will head to Lawrence Tech on Wednesday for their next match.

The Panthers entered conference play with their best winning percentage in school history and with a ton of momentum after posting a 4-2 road win at Robert Morris on Wednesday. That momentum seemed to have escaped the team early against the Warriors as the host team scored the match's first goal 26:13 into the opening half.

Davenport came back strong however and got the equalizer 6:44 later when senior Jai Maw scored directly from a corner kick and the match went into halftime tied 1-1.

The DU offense, which came into the match averaging almost three goals per game, erupted in the second 45 minutes with four more goals to post a convincing road win to start the league play. Dzenan Catic scored the first of two goals on the day for the freshman just over 13 minutes into the half as Jacob Love picked up the assist.

Love then got his own tally at the 65:21 mark on a sweet pass from fellow freshman TJ Ifaturoti to put the Panthers up 3-1. With just less than four minutes remaining in the match, Catic recorded his second of the afternoon and the scoring was finished by Dino Duratovic 42 seconds later.

Mirza Harambasic got the win in net for the Panthers as the senior finished with four saves.

DU will have two more road matches in their 11-match road swing to start the season when they head to Southfield on Saturday for a league contest against the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
